The Graduate Student Writing Support Institute is designed to support, motivate, and encourage graduate students at any stage of their writing process.
Institute Logistics
Time Frame: 6-Weeks
Modality: Virtual, Synchronous, One-Hour Zoom Sessions Once a Week
Ideal Audience: Graduate Students (i.e., students earning doctoral, master’s, or specialist degrees).
Requirements: Current enrollment in a graduate program
Benefits: Participants will:
Learn tools and strategies to navigate the writing and research process on a graduate level, including integrating writing strategies and technology.
Discuss strategies for navigating working relationships with committee members and graduate faculty members, as well as addressing work-life balance.
Create a game plan to implement to move their writing forward through weekly reflective journals and deliverables.
Cost: $295 for the 6-week experience

Week #1: Understanding Your Purpose and Writing Process- This session includes information on understanding your purpose for attending graduate school. We will detail the fundamental steps of the writing process in the context of graduate-level writing. We will also discuss topic selection.
Week #2: Writing About Research- This session includes information concerning how to enter scholarly conversations by conducting academic research. We will discuss drafting literature reviews and how to determine a gap in the literature.
Week #3: Leveraging Writing Strategies- This session includes information on utilizing various writing strategies, including determining writing settings and making writing schedules.
Week #4: Integrating Technology to Assist with the Writing Process- This session includes information on ways to integrate tech tools within the writing process. We will discuss how to properly use AI tools when writing and researching.
Week #5: Navigating Relationships and Balancing Work/Life Challenges During the Writing Process- This session includes information on working alongside committee chairs and professors. We will also discuss how to balance life’s challenges while accomplishing writing goals.
Week #6: Moving Forward with a Writing Game Plan- Our final session includes a panel discussion of former graduate students who will share their tips and strategies on how they navigated their writing process. We will also have short presentations from participants on their plan of action to move forward with their writing.
Important Dates
Fall 2025 Cohort: September 16-October 21
Option A- Live Sessions + Online Modules: Sessions are held once a week on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00 PM EST. All participants receive the Zoom link and calendar invitation to attend.
Option B- Recorded Sessions + Online Modules: Interested participants can also choose to receive the recording of each session each week and also participate in the weekly online modules. They will still receive the Zoom link to attend live sessions.

Head Instructor, Dr. Candace Chambers
Dr. Chambers is the owner and CEO of Educational Writing Services, a company she started in 2017 with the vision of helping writers elevate their voices. The company edits over 350 manuscripts a year and works closely with graduate student writers on their culminating manuscripts, such as dissertations, theses, and capstones.
She also serves as a professor of English Composition and Business/Professional Writing with 8 years of collegiate teaching experience. She is currently teaching as a part-time instructor of English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (online) and Central Piedmont Community College (in-person).
Dr. Chambers has served as Assistant Director of the Writing Center at the University of Alabama and Graduate Student Writing Specialist at Ashland University’s Writing Center. Dr. Chambers has presented at conferences such as Computers and Writing, the International Writing Centers Association, and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. She is the author of 3 books and has published academic articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Chambers earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction (Urban Literacy Concentration) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her Master of Arts in English (Composition, Rhetoric, and English Studies concentration) from the University of Alabama, and her Bachelor of Arts in English (Secondary English Education concentration) from Jackson State University.
